Youth AI Governance Forum (YAIGF) – Endorsement of Principles

Foundational Principle Institutionalising Meaningful Youth Participation in AI Governance

The Youth AI Governance Forum (YAIGF) exists to advance the institutionalisation of meaningful youth participation in AI governance. We believe that young people should be systematically embedded within AI governance processes through sustained, representative, and impactful participation, recognising their distinct and legitimate stake in shaping the long-term governance, development, deployment, and oversight of AI systems.

The following Youth AI Governance Principles reflect the priorities consistently identified in YAIGF's inaugural global youth consultation and in its subsequent submission to the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance. Together, they provide a shared framework for advancing meaningful youth participation in AI governance.

By signing below, I endorse the Foundational Principle and the following Youth AI Governance Principles in my personal capacity.

1. Human Rights

AI governance should be grounded in internationally recognised human rights to protect fundamental freedoms and advance transparency, accountability, privacy, and meaningful human oversight.

2. AI Literacy and Education

AI literacy and education should equip individuals to engage critically, responsibly, and confidently with AI while strengthening digital resilience, supporting creativity, safeguarding independent thinking, and enabling informed participation in AI governance.

3. Safe, Trustworthy, and Accountable AI

The development and deployment of AI should be supported by effective governance mechanisms, appropriate safeguards, and proportionate accountability measures that promote safety, manage risks, and strengthen public trust.

4. Inclusive Global Governance

AI governance should reflect diverse regions, disciplines, cultures, and lived experiences while strengthening equitable participation and capacity-building for historically underrepresented communities.
