Research Participant Consent Form
Study Title:
Time Management Apps and High School Student Sleep Metrics
What Study is About
This study researches the relationship between the use of time management apps of former high school students and the average sleep times and the quality of sleep of former high school students. Time management apps can either purposefully block access to apps and create time limits (ex. Opal) or can be used to establish schedules and organize events (ex. Google Calendar). This study measures parts of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, including sleep duration, sleep quality, and other measurements. The survey is to be filled out by recent American high school grads.
Note:
If you did not attend an American High School, are not currently attending college, or not in the age range of 18-24, please leave this consent form and do not fill out the survey, as this study focuses on specifically people in those groups.
What We Ask You To Do
This study involves participants to complete an online survey. The survey’s completion time is about 10-15 minutes, as it may take time for participants to remember or check their sleep habits and time management app usage during high school.
You are going to be asked about:
Your past high school experience
Screen time habits
Whether you used time-management or screen-restriction apps
Your extracurricular commitments
Your sleep duration, sleep quality, and sleep difficulties
It is important to note that the survey is going to ask you to input your old school email to verify that you actually go to college, in addition to adding your old high school to confirm that you went to an American High School. No identifying information is collected besides this, and records of email addresses are going to be deleted after the completion of the survey.
Participation is voluntary and may leave the survey at any time. Unfinished survey data would be destroyed.
