MCPS Educator & Staff Screen Use Survey

Who is this survey for? We invite MCPS educators to share their experience on the impact of technology use on students, classrooms, and learning. It includes 12 brief questions and the opportunity to share your own experiences. This is the second survey we've distributed to MCPS staff in 2026. The results of the first survey, which ran from June 20th to July 10th, were summarized and presented to the Board of Education on July 16th. You can read the report here.

What is the topic? The questions in this survey cover where student smartphones should be stored, Chromebook and smartboard use in the classroom, student access to generative AI, and the observed impact of technology in classrooms.

Who is distributing this survey? Schools Beyond Screens MCPS is a group of concerned parents and teachers who care about ensuring MCPS schools are a safe, distraction-free learning environment for all students.

Why is this survey important? Across the country, school systems are re-examining the role of digital technology, screens, and AI in their classrooms. Locally, MCPS's Board of Education recently passed a resolution, Auditing Student Screen Time K-8, requiring Central Office to audit student screen time. We want to ensure that any MCPS staff and teacher that wants to weigh in on these important topics get the opportunity to have their voice heard.

This survey is confidential. All contact information will be kept private, and identifying information will be removed from responses. We may quote survey responses in public documents, but only in a way that does not identify individual respondents.
