Relevant is running a research project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and carried out in collaboration with Relativ Impact and Ethical Good, on how NGOs can build their own income and rely less on grants, donations and philanthropy. Examples include installing solar panels on the organisation's own roof, renting out a building it already owns, or licensing a method it has developed. We know it can be done, but it rarely works as a systematic solution.
What nobody has mapped properly is what gets in the way inside an organisation: legal and tax questions, capacity, governance and culture. Your answers help us map those constraints, so that we can develop solutions together with NGOs.
