About the LSG:

The Legislative Study Group (LSG) is an official caucus of the Texas House of Representatives, chaired by Representative Armando Walle. During legislative sessions, LSG’s primary mission is to provide members with analyses and recommendations on every bill that comes up for a floor vote in the House. To achieve this, our team of analysts follows bills through their assigned committees, evaluates their impacts, conducts stakeholder outreach, and produces comprehensive analyses. Position Overview:

The LSG is seeking multiple Legislative Analyst fellows to start in January 2027 and continue through the 90th Legislative Session. This is a full-time, in-person fellowship in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer who enjoys researching and collaborating with stakeholders to gain insights. They should be self-starters, eager to gain experience in the Capitol and learn about policy issues impacting Texans.

Job Duties: 

- Research and draft bill analyses by deadlines determined by the Executive Director

- Research and draft policy reports by deadlines determined by the Executive Director

- Prepare for and attend assigned committee hearings 

- Build and maintain relationships with legislative offices and stakeholders in assigned policy areas

- Remain current on trends and issues in assigned policy areas

- Other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

- Bachelor’s degree, or enrollment in an advanced degree program in a relevant field

- Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information

- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

- Willingness to work long hours, including weekends and holidays if needed, during the legislative session

- No prior legislative session experience required

Monthly Stipend: 

This fellowship offers a monthly stipend of at least $2,500 - $3,000 for the duration of the session.
