Oxum Glycosciences - Staff Scientist & Lab Operations Lead

We are a fast-growing, early-stage biotechnology startup leveraging proprietary glycan technology to innovate the cancer diagnostics space. We are looking for a versatile Staff Scientist to drive our laboratory operations, manage our research facility, and mentor the next generation of scientific talent. In this role, you will balance high-level scientific execution with day-to-day lab management, ensuring a safe, efficient, and collaborative research environment. 

Compensation: $3,500 – $5,000 per month + variable equity compensation (dependent on experience)

Location: Chicago, IL  (On-site)

Position Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

Lab Management: Oversee daily laboratory operations, maintain inventory, manage vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Mentorship & Training: Design training protocols, onboard incoming research interns, and provide day-to-day technical guidance and professional mentorship.

Experimental Execution: Diagnostic validation, optimize assays, and maintain rigorous documentation to support our business operations.

Equipment Oversight: Manage equipment calibration, schedule preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or higher degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related life sciences discipline.

Experience: 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in biology, chemical biology, or a related field

Operational Expertise: Strong organizational skills with direct experience managing chemical inventories, safety protocols, and laboratory procurement.
