The Dogs We Keep: Tell me about your dog

Thank you for wanting to share your dog with me. There are no right or wrong answers here. Write as much or as little as you like, in whatever way feels natural. If you'd rather talk than write, you're welcome to send me voice notes instead: wa.me/31657351851

About your dog

What is your dog's name, and how old are they?

If they're no longer with you, when did you say goodbye?

How did they come into your life?

Was there anything happening in your life around that time?

What's something about them that only you would notice?

What has your dog seen you through, or brought into your life, that you didn't expect?

What do you hope people understand about your dog when they see the portrait?

If you could tell just one story about your dog, the one closest to your heart, what would it be?

Photos

Please send at least one clear photo of your dog. Photos taken at their eye level, in daylight, with their face clearly visible work best. They don’t need to be perfect. If you have a photo of the two of you together, I’d love to see it too. It helps me understand your story, even though I’ll only paint your dog.

Before you send it

I’ll paint your dog in watercolour on paper and share the portrait with a short story based on your answers. Your dog’s portrait and story may appear on my Instagram, website and newsletter, and later possibly in a book or exhibition. I may shorten or reword your story, and you’ll see the final text before anything is published.

Please let me know how you’d like to be named: your first name, your full name, or only your dog’s name.

The original painting remains mine, but you’ll receive a free digital copy of the portrait to keep and share. You’ll also have two weeks to let me know whether you’d like to buy the original before I offer it elsewhere, at the regular A5 price of € 45.

Sometimes an original is chosen for a display or exhibition. If that happens with yours, you can still reserve it within those two weeks, and I’ll hand it over to you once the display has ended.

By sending your answers and photos, you agree to the above.
