Social Media Manager

Weather on the Way | Remote Worldwide | Contract

Weather on the Way is the #1 iOS road conditions app, helping thousands every day reach their destination safely and stress-free. We have recently passed one million downloads and are looking for someone who can help us reach even more users.

Your mission would be to build an online presence for Weather on the Way by producing engaging short and long form videos about the weather, road trips and the app itself. The strategy is to educate the users, rather than sell to them. We want to position Weather on the Way as a source of expert advice on topics related to road trips and weather forecasting, as well as increase the awareness of the app itself.
We are looking for people who have proven ability to engage on social media and communicate in video form, as well as research skills and creativity needed to produce interesting and engaging content. We will be starting with focus on YouTube, so experience with this platform is critical.
About the role
• Propose topics and strategize video content.
• Research interesting facts about road trips, science of weather, weather forecasting and impacts on driving with focus on US and Canada.
• Record short or long-form video for YouTube about these topics.
• Stay aware of current and upcoming weather events, such as hurricanes, cold snaps etc.
• Showcase how Weather on the Way can help solve problems.
• Respond to questions and build relationships with the audience

Skills and experience

We are looking to hire someone who can prove they have:
• Experience in managing social media for a personal channel or a business.
• Great communication skills (native or near-native English).
• Research skills for finding interesting and novel topics.
• Authenticity and enthusiasm in sharing about these topics.
• Understanding of social media landscape, with focus on YouTube.
• Great writing skills.
• Good social media management skills.
• Video editing skills (optional, we would work with an editor if this is not your strong suit).
Additional experience that makes you stand out:
• Proven experience managing social media for a consumer subscription app, especially in travel or weather sector.
• Experience or education related to weather forecasting.
• Personal experience with long road trips, RV, storm chasing or other weather and driving related activities.
Why This Role Represents a Career Move

• This is a chance to build an entire content strategy from scratch, not execute someone else's plan.

• Creative freedom to pick your topics and how to approach them.
• As the app grows, you could build and lead a content team.
Terms
• Freelance contract at $7k gross per month.
• Full time @ 40h per week (potentially open to part time for an exceptional candidate).
• 2.5 paid days off accrued for each month worked.
• Worldwide remote. We are based in EU, so 1-2h overlap with EU working hours required for communication.
• We provide any software licenses you need to do your best work.

Recruitment process:

1. Portfolio review
2. Initial interview
3. Week long paid test project (at $44/h)
4. Final interview

What the first 6 months look like

You'd be starting from a completely new channel:

• Month 1: Get deep on the product, our users and the road trip/weather space. Set channel strategy and ship your first videos.
• Month 3: Settle into a sustainable publishing rhythm, test topics and formats, and find what resonates.
• Month 6: Double down on what works, build real community engagement, and weave the app in naturally where it solves problems.
