Proformant | Forward Deployed Engineer Application
Location: Pretoria or Johannesburg

Proformant is looking for a curious, adaptable Forward Deployed Engineer with 2–3 years of relevant experience to help clients improve how their businesses operate through our A4 Framework: AI, Automation, Analytics and Advisory.
You’ll be based in Pretoria or Johannesburg and willing to travel to client sites approximately three days per week, with the remaining time working from home.
You’ll work directly with client teams to understand their operations, establish requirements and turn business problems into practical technical solutions. Your work could range from building an analytics dashboard or automating a manual process to integrating business systems, developing a small application or advising a client on how to use AI effectively.
The role combines hands-on technical delivery with client engagement, project management and coordination. You’ll need to be comfortable asking questions, learning unfamiliar systems and taking work from an initial idea through implementation and adoption. As you develop your understanding of Proformant’s approach, you’ll take increasing ownership, with the expectation that you can lead routine client engagements within six months, supported by senior review.
- Understand client operations and requirements. Work with stakeholders to uncover operational challenges, map processes and translate business needs into clear technical requirements and delivery plans.
- Deliver across the A4 Framework. Apply AI, automation, analytics and advisory to solve practical business problems and improve day-to-day operations.
- Build practical solutions. Use SQL, Python, APIs and appropriate tools to analyse data, connect systems, automate workflows and develop smaller software solutions.
- Develop useful analytics. Build reports, dashboards and data transformations that help clients understand performance and make better decisions.
- Manage projects and coordinate delivery. Maintain priorities, milestones and dependencies; communicate progress clearly; and coordinate client stakeholders and supporting specialists.
- Lead client engagements. Build trusted relationships, manage expectations and help clients prioritise improvements according to business value and feasibility.
- Use AI effectively. Work confidently with tools such as ChatGPT, Codex and Claude to support analysis, development and delivery, applying sound judgement and checking the quality of outputs.
- Support implementation and adoption. Test solutions, document how they work and help client teams use and maintain them effectively.
- Improve how we deliver. Turn lessons from engagements into reusable templates, technical components and delivery practices.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in a technical, analytics, automation, business systems or consulting role.
- Strong practical SQL skills and a working knowledge of Python programming.
- Excellent project management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise work, manage competing priorities and follow through on commitments.
- The ability to establish requirements and translate business needs into clear, actionable technical requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
- Confidence using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Codex and Claude, with an understanding of their strengths and limitations.
- Intense curiosity, adaptability and the initiative to investigate unfamiliar problems and learn new tools.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, with care for data accuracy, confidentiality and the reliability of delivered solutions.
- ERP or accounting software, including an understanding of how business processes and financial data flow through these systems.
- Experience working in or with Commercial Real Estate or REITs in the EMEA region is a big plus.
- Analytics and reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Data transformation and modelling with dbt.
- Experience with MRI Software systems such as MRI Property Management X (PMX) or PropertyCentral; or Yardi systems such as Yardi Voyager.
- Cloud and data platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric or AWS.
- Workflow automation tools such as Power Automate, n8n or Activepieces.
- API integrations, data pipelines or small business applications.
- Working directly with clients or coordinating delivery across technical and business teams.
