As part of our recruitment services, we are supporting a growing organisation to identify a capable and hands-on Human Resources Officer who will play a key role in establishing and managing its HR function

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to join the organisation as its pioneer HR team member.

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing the foundations of the HR function, putting appropriate policies and processes in place, supporting managers and employees, and ensuring that core HR operations run effectively as the organisation grows.

This role requires someone who is hands-on, organised, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working independently. You should be able to move between strategic thinking and practical execution—from developing an HR process or policy to maintaining employee records, supporting recruitment, resolving employee issues, and coordinating payroll and benefits.

Key Responsibilities

HR Function & Process Development

Establish and maintain core HR processes, systems, and documentation for the organisation.

Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, templates, and employee guidelines in line with business needs and applicable employment requirements.

Establish effective employee records and HR filing systems.Identify gaps in existing people processes and recommend practical improvements.

Support the development of an effective HR structure as the organisation grows.

Recruitment & Onboarding

Manage end-to-end recruitment processes, from developing job descriptions and advertising roles to screening, interviewing, selection, and offer management.

Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and identify suitable candidates.

Coordinate onboarding and ensure new employees have a smooth and structured introduction to the organisation.

Maintain recruitment records and monitor recruitment timelines.

Employee Relations & HR Advisory

Serve as the first point of contact for employees on HR-related matters.

Support managers in addressing employee relations, performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace issues.

Handle employee concerns professionally and confidentially, escalating complex matters where appropriate.

Promote a positive, professional, and respectful workplace culture.

Support disciplinary and grievance processes in line with company policy and applicable employment requirements.

Performance & Employee Development

Support the implementation and administration of performance management processes.

Coordinate performance reviews, goal-setting, and related documentation.Identify employee development needs and support training and learning initiatives.

Assist managers in addressing performance and development concerns.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Administration

Coordinate monthly payroll inputs and work closely with relevant finance/payroll partners to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

Manage employee benefits administration, including enrolment and updates.Maintain accurate employee information and HR records.

Track leave, attendance, contracts, probation periods, and other key employee information.

Prepare HR reports and provide relevant people data to management.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure HR practices and documentation comply with applicable employment laws and organisational policies.

Maintain employment contracts, personnel files, and statutory documentation.

Monitor key HR compliance requirements and identify potential risks.

Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation and HR best practices.

Culture & Employee Engagement

Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, communication, and organisational culture.

Help establish clear HR practices that create a consistent employee experience.Support management in building a professional, accountable, and high-performing workplace.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in an HR generalist or standalone HR role.
Professional HR certification such as CIPM, SHRM, HRCI, or equivalent is an advantage.
Demonstrated experience across multiple areas of HR, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, HR operations, and HR administration.
Good knowledge of Nigerian employment practices and HR compliance requirements.
Experience developing or improving HR policies, processes, and systems.
Strong understanding of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through performance management and exit.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently, take ownership, and build processes without requiring significant supervision.
