I'm putting together a small group of folks to read the intro and first three chapters of my book (about 47 pages, not the whole thing) and tell me what works, what doesn't, and where I lost you.
After 2,000+ hires, I've watched the same thing play out over and over. Teams hire the wrong person, keep the wrong person too long, or bury the right person in noise. Not because leaders are bad at their jobs, but because nobody ever gave them a clear way to see who's really in front of them.
Grown Ass Professionals is my attempt to fix that. It's a straight-talk guide to finding good people, keeping them, and getting out of their way, built around a simple 1-to-10 scale for sizing up the folks on your team (and the ones you're about to hire).
No jargon. No corporate euphemisms. Just the stuff I'd tell you over coffee.
You lead people. You hire, manage, or run a team, and you're tired of hires that look great in the interview and fizzle by month six.
You back up the people who lead. You're in HR or people ops, or you're the one running hiring with five other jobs on your plate, and you want a process that actually holds up.
Read the intro and first three chapters (about 47 pages, 90 minutes or so) over two weeks. Fill out a short survey when you're done. That's it.
I'm not looking for compliments. I'm looking for where you got bored, what confused you, what you'd steal for Monday morning, and what felt like it was written for somebody else.
- First look at the book, months before anyone else
- Your name in the acknowledgments (if you want it there)
- First word when it launches, and first seat at the courses that follow
- A few ideas you can put to work right away
1. Sign up by Fri, Nov 6.
2. I'll pick a group of about 50 and send the chapters Mon, Nov 9.
3. Read on your own time over two weeks.
4. Take the survey by Sun, Nov 22.
Spots are limited on purpose. If this round fills up, you'll be first in line for the next one.
Takes about a minute. I'll let you know by Nov 9 either way.
Where the chapters will go.
