This $250 scholarship is awarded to an AWCS member, aged 18 and above, who is committed to improving their literary craft and who is actively engaged in the writing community. The Scholarship is awarded twice a year at the end of a term.
The scholarship acknowledges the recipient’s dedication to learning and participation in the community and provides funds to support their creative practice. Applicants may nominate others or themselves.
Timeline
There are two periods for this Scholarship:
1. Applicants who started and completed classes from July 2025 to June 2026.
Application Deadline: Friday, May 15, 2026
Selected applicant will be notified on: Monday, June 15, 2026
2. Applicants who started and completed from January 2026 to December 2026.
Application Deadline: Sunday, November 15, 2026
Selected applicant will be notified on: Tuesday, December 15, 2026
To be eligible for the scholarship funding, candidates must be:
- a current AWCS member
- 18 years or older
- in an AWCS class (workshop or weekly course) or have taken a class during the last twelve months at the time of application
AWCS is dedicated to creating equitable, inclusive, and accessible programs. We encourage everyone to apply.
The scholarship must be used to support the selected candidate’s commitment to creative writing. Funds may be used for writing tools and equipment, writing classes, consultations, writing support services, or other resources that support current writing projects.
