Your Ideas to improve Telraam's Data Analysis Tools
We want to expand the
telraam.net web app with new data analysis capabilities. The best ideas come from our users who work with the data every day. You know what sticks, what doesn't work, what is difficult and what you've been missing all this time. Time to speak up!
What do you want us to build?
Below we have a curated list of data ideas. Feel free to rate them, if you have no opinion about a feature, feel free to skip.
Keep this in mind, when giving stars to the ideas
2 stars: Maybe useful, but probably not for me
3 stars: Yes, good idea, this would help me
4 stars: This is essential, you HAVE to build this
Time-Travel Traffic Map - Watch how traffic changes over weeks, months, or years with a cool rewind/fast-forward feature. See your street's traffic history come alive!
My Neighborhood Dashboard - Compare multiple streets at once and see what's happening across your whole neighborhood. Get the big picture of traffic patterns in your area.
Monthly Neighborhood Updates - Get automatic monthly reports about traffic in your area and share what you've noticed (open text fields). Join the conversation with neighbors who care about the same streets (on Telraam Talks forum). Data Trust Score - See how reliable the traffic data is for each street. Users can add notes or even results from manual validations counts, like "pedestrians on the other side aren't counted" so everyone knows the numbers can be trusted.
Before & After Comparison Tool - Easily compare two time periods (like before and after your city added bike lanes) to see what changed. A simple “step-by-step analysis guide”, allowing non-experts to do a more complex analysis with Telraam data. The tool shows if changes are big enough to matter.
Find Similar Streets - Discover streets that are similar to yours and see how your traffic compares. Spot streets that are surprisingly different even though they look the same.
Unusual Traffic Alerts - Get notified when something weird happens—maybe traffic suddenly doubled, or the sensor might have a problem.
Add Your Local Knowledge - Tell others why traffic patterns are what they are on your street (like "there's a school nearby, so there’s lots of bikes at 15,30”, "there's a supermarket in my street, so Saturday is always buy", or "road construction until June, so traffic was down"). Help people understand the story behind the numbers.
Ask Questions in Plain English - Type questions like "Show me how many bikes passed last month" and get instant answers with charts, like ChatGPT—no need to be a data expert!
Where's Traffic Going? - See estimates of where cars and bikes are coming from and heading to, based on the whole network of Telraam sensors.
Set Traffic Goals & Track Progress - Set a target for how much traffic you think is acceptable on your street and watch if things get better or worse over time.
Simple Street Summaries - Get easy-to-understand cards like "Your street is bike-friendly: 65% of traffic isn't cars!" Perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Night Traffic Options - Choose between actual nighttime counts by the sensor or estimated numbers based on daytime patterns when sensors have reduced visibility at night. The 2nd option will always be an estimate, but broken down by mode (pedestrian, bicycle, ...). Currently we only have the 1st option.
Compare your traffic with your street profile - See if traffic levels are appropriate for your street type and how measured speeds compare to legal limits
Simple insights - A quick summary of your street's traffic measurements.
Traffic Flow Simulator - Predict what would happen if your city closes a street or adds a bike lane. See where traffic might move to and test solutions.
Mode Shift Calculator - Measure how interventions change transportation choices—like how many people switch from driving to biking after adding bike infrastructure.
