Description: Join us for an hour exploring Cook-Johnson Cemetery and honoring the Revolutionary War soldiers buried here. After a brief introduction, you'll use a worksheet to seek out their graves, plant a flag at each, and learn their stories, including a few who also took part in Shays's Rebellion.
Getting There and Parking: Cook-Johnson Cemetery is located off of the eastern part of North Valley Road. You can
find it on Google Maps here. A few cars will be able to park near the sand pile off the road to the left, and more space is available at another parking location at the end of the road. Additional cars may park along the side of the road. Please park on the same side of the road as other cars so we don't block access to the road. There are several houses in this area; please make sure you are not parked in a driveway or obstructing access.
Physical Accessibility: You will be parking on a dirt road. From the sand pile, you will walk downhill on a dirt path before you come to the cemetery clearing. There is a flatter walk to the cemetery from the other parking location at the end of the road. The cemetery itself is on a small hill with uneven terrain. The cemetery is surrounded by trees that provide pockets of shade you will be able to step into for relief from the sun if it is a hot day. Please wear comfortable shoes/clothing and bring water. You may want to bring bug repellant and sunscreen.
