About Canvass

Most companies in India make expensive decisions about their customers based on thin data and slower intuition. We are changing that.

Canvass is a consumer intelligence platform for the Indian market. We are building an AI-powered consumer research firm that helps companies understand real people — what they want, why they hesitate, and what they will do next — faster and more honestly than any traditional research firm can.

We are a small team backed by Rainmatter and a set of respected fintech angels from the ecosystem. Our work sits at the intersection of ethnographic research, AI, and product strategy. Right now, we are moving fast.

What this role is

We are looking for a Design Researcher & Strategist to work with us closely.

This is a learning-by-doing role with real responsibility from day one. You will be in the thick of projects early — in the field, in synthesis sessions, and in client conversations. You will learn through direct exposure and coaching from people who have done this work at some of the best design practices in the world.

As you grow, you will take on more ownership. Over time, the goal is for you to lead research independently. But in the beginning, this role is about immersion, commitment, and building strong instincts.

What the work actually looks like

You will go into the field and spend real time with real people - not just to collect quotes or observations, but to understand how someone lives, why they do what they do, and what actually matters to them.

In practice, the role will include:

- Lead field and remote qualitative research that gets people talking—and reveals what they’re not saying. - Drive interviews, observations, and contextual inquiries that surface the real motivations behind behavior. - Cut through messy qualitative data to uncover the patterns, tensions, blind spots, and leverage points others miss. - Translate research into clear strategic moves, design direction, and decision-ready recommendations clients can act on immediately. - Align and manage recruiters and research partners to ensure the right respondents are in the room before the sprint even begins.

What we are looking for

- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience - Exposure to human-centered design, design research, service design, or innovation work - formally trained or self-taught - Some demonstrated experience in qualitative research or design ethnography, whether through professional work, academic projects, or independent practice - The ability to show us your work and walk us through how you thought about it - Curiosity that goes beyond the surface of what people say — you care about motivations, emotions, contradictions, and context - Comfort with ambiguity and open-ended briefs; the unknown should feel energising, not paralysing - A point of view on people, design, and behaviour — we care about how you think, not just what you have done - Strong written and verbal communication - Reliability, rigor, and willingness to do the unglamorous parts of research well

Our evaluation of you isn’t influenced by degrees or colleges. What truly matters is whether you possess the necessary foundations, curiosity and craft.

Salary Rang: Rs.30,000 - 60,000 /month (Depending on experience)
