Vote Palestine Comox Valley: Candidate Platform Commitment

Comox Valley for Palestine is asking all municipal candidates in Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, and the CVRD to state their position on the Comox Valley Palestine Platform ahead of the October 17, 2026 election.

Your responses will be shared publicly with voters in the Comox Valley. Candidates who do not respond will be listed as "No Response."

Communities across BC are taking principled stands on Palestinian human rights. The City of Duncan, the City of Powell River, and the City of Burnaby have all signed the Apartheid Free Communities Pledge. We believe voters deserve to know where their local candidates stand.

The Comox Valley Palestine Platform outlines four commitments we are asking municipal candidates to endorse. You may endorse all four or indicate your support for individual points. Your response to each point will be shared publicly.

Point 1: Name and Condemn the Genocide in Palestine

Point 2: Sign the Apartheid Free Communities Pledge

Do you commit to signing the Apartheid Free Communities (AFC) Pledge and working toward your municipality becoming an Apartheid Free Community?

Over 300 Canadian communities have signed the AFC Pledge, including Duncan, Powell River, and Burnaby in BC. The pledge affirms a commitment to freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people and all people, and commits to ending all support for Israel's apartheid regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation. Point 3: Review and Cut Procurement Ties with Complicit Companies

Do you commit to reviewing your municipality's contracts and procurement relationships and working to cut ties with companies complicit in Israel's violations of international law?

This includes reviewing existing contracts and procurement policies to identify and divest from companies that are complicit in or profit from Israel's apartheid, military occupation, and genocide.

Point 4: Recognize Anti-Palestinian Racism

Do you commit to recognizing the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association (ACLA) Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) framework and working to address APR in your municipality?

The ACLA defines Anti-Palestinian Racism as "a form of anti-Arab racism that silences, excludes, erases, stereotypes, defames or dehumanizes Palestinians or their narratives about their identities, their displacement and occupation of their lands, and/or their struggles for self-determination." Recognizing APR means protecting the right of community members to advocate for Palestinian human rights without fear of professional, social, or political reprisal.
