Holding Space - Honouring Our Communities

A VIIBreaths Conversational Encounter - Black History Month Scotland 2026

When: Wednesday 21 October, 6-8pm Where: Online What will it be: Nike Oruh from VIIBreaths will be facilitating a conversational gathering in the spirit of Black History Month 2026's theme, Honouring Our Communities.

Rooted in the VIIBreaths practice of breath, reflection, storytelling, creativity and connection, the session will create a relaxed and intentional space for Black individuals in Scotland to come together, breathe, listen, share and reflect on the people, places and communities that have shaped and supported us.

Rather than a formal talk or panel, this will be an encounter-style conversation. There is no expectation to perform, represent a whole community or have the "right" answer.

Participants can speak, listen, reflect or simply be present.

We will explore what it means to honour our communities, including the visible and celebrated contributions, but also the quieter forms of care, creativity, resistance, friendship, mentorship, family and everyday community-building that can so easily go unseen.

There will also be space to acknowledge the complexity of community: the places where we experience belonging, but also expectation, tension, difference or exclusion.

Please confirm that you identify as Black and live in Scotland

You must identify as Black (we define this as people with African, Caribbean, Afro-Latin, Afro-Indigenous, and/or multi-heritage descent who are racialised as Black)
