Professional Standards & Community Commitment

Parent Baby Spaces
Professional Standards & Community Commitment
Welcome
Welcome to Parent Baby Spaces.
Parent Baby Spaces exists to champion emotionally safe, professionally held spaces where parents, babies and practitioners can all flourish.
We believe professionalism and compassion belong together.
These standards are more than a checklist. They are the professional foundations that help us create environments where families feel safe, practitioners feel supported, and learning never stops.
By becoming a recognised Parent Baby Space, you are joining a community built on curiosity, reflection, accountability and kindness.
These standards explain what we ask of our practitioners and what you can expect from us in return.
Our Professional Standards
Every recognised Parent Baby Space agrees to uphold the following professional standards.
These standards are not designed to create perfection.
They exist to protect families, support practitioners and uphold the integrity of our community.
Qualifications & Scope of Practice
Recognised practitioners will:
• Hold a relevant qualification or completed training in the support, modality or service they offer.
• Work within their professional scope of practice.
• Recognise when another professional is better placed to support a family and confidently signpost or refer when appropriate.
Safeguarding
Recognised practitioners will:
• Hold an Enhanced DBS check where applicable.
• Complete safeguarding training at least every three years.
• Understand their safeguarding responsibilities.
• Know how to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility and sits at the heart of every Parent Baby Space.
First Aid
Recognised practitioners will:
• Hold appropriate first aid training relevant to the families they support.
Where appropriate, this should include paediatric first aid or infant CPR.
Insurance
Recognised practitioners will:
• Hold appropriate public liability insurance.
Professional Practice
Recognised practitioners will:
• Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries.
• Communicate honestly, respectfully and ethically.
• Avoid misleading or exaggerated claims.
• Practise within current professional guidance and evidence where appropriate.
• Recognise that learning is an ongoing professional responsibility.
Continuing Professional Development
Recognised practitioners commit to:
• Completing a minimum of 10 hours of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year.
• Remaining curious and open to learning.
• Reflecting on their practice regularly.
• Continuing to grow both professionally and personally.
Learning does not stop once we qualify.
Reflective Practice
Reflection sits at the heart of Parent Baby Spaces.
We don't believe reflective practice is about finding faults.
We believe it helps practitioners recognise their strengths, deepen their understanding and continue growing with confidence.
Throughout your journey with Parent Baby Spaces, you'll be invited to pause, reflect and reconnect with your practice.
Not because you're being assessed.
Because we believe practitioners deserve spaces where they are held too.
Ethical & Inclusive Practice
Every Parent Baby Space commits to creating environments that are:
• Emotionally safe.
• Welcoming.
• Inclusive.
• Compassionate.
• Respectful.
• Non-judgemental.
Families should never leave a Parent Baby Space feeling shamed, frightened or blamed.
Practical Readiness
Recognised practitioners will maintain:
• Appropriate risk assessments where required.
• Awareness of health and safety responsibilities.
• Access to relevant signposting information for local and national support services.
• Safe and appropriate systems for the environment in which they practise.
Annual Renewal
To maintain recognition, practitioners will be invited each year to:
✓ Confirm professional documents remain current.
✓ Confirm safeguarding training remains up to date.
✓ Evidence ongoing CPD.
✓ Complete a short reflective renewal.
Annual renewal isn't simply about maintaining recognition.
It's an opportunity to pause, celebrate your growth, reflect on your journey and consider where you would like your learning to continue.
Our Commitment to You
Parent Baby Spaces is built on relationship, not inspection.
As we ask you to commit to these standards, we also make a commitment to you.
We promise to:
🤍 Hold you with compassion rather than judgement.

Together we believe:
