The LondonMet-UNACH Climate and Green Skills Summer School

About the Programme

The Climate Knowledge and Green Skills Summer School is a free, intensive training programme for unemployed and underemployed young people in London. It is delivered as part of Raíces y Futuros (Roots and Futures), a British Council and HSBC funded international project led by London Metropolitan University in partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas in Mexico.

Over 9 weeks, you will build practical knowledge and skills across five areas: climate science and environmental justice, nature-based solutions, green enterprise and social entrepreneurship, leadership, and participatory research. Sessions combine workshops, field activities, guest lectures from green sector professionals, and live collaboration with young people from Chiapas in southern Mexico, bringing together two very different experiences of climate change and two very different sets of knowledge about how to respond to it.

On completing the programme, you will move into one of two pathways: a 6-week supervised work placement with a green organisation in North London, or an enterprise seed grant to launch your own green business, with mentorship support throughout.

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, women, people with disabilities, those from working-class backgrounds, and care-experienced or care-responsible individuals. A participation bursary, childcare provision, and reasonable adjustments are available to ensure the programme is genuinely accessible.
