External Editors Application

The Journal and Seminar Committee at the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, is recruiting External Editors to support the publication of our peer-reviewed law journal and our student-run peer-reviewed legal blog "Legis Sententia".

We invite applications from dedicated legal experts who can help us uphold the highest standards of academic publishing. The role involves manuscript review, substantive editing, and collaborating with our editorial board.

If you have a passion for legal scholarship and a commitment to editorial excellence, we encourage you to apply.

Tell us a bit more about yourself

What motivates you to contribute to academic legal scholarship as an External Editor for our journal, and how do you see your role furthering the discourse in a specific legal field of your interest?

Question:
Please review the following excerpt from a hypothetical manuscript and identify at least three specific issues (e.g., substantive logic, structural clarity, citation format, or grammatical error). Briefly explain each issue and suggest a correction.

Excerpt:
"The Supreme Court inKesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala (1973) firmly established the basic structure doctrine, which has since been a cornerstone of Indian constitutional law. This doctrine has been criticised for giving the judiciary too much power over the democratically elected legislature (Sathe, 2002). However, as one scholar notes, 'it is a necessary check and balance.' (P. Singh, 2005). Furthermore, the landmark judgement in Indira Gandhi v. Raj Narain (1975) also applied this doctrine, proving its importance. In conclusion, the basic structure doctrine is a very important part of the constitution."
