The Doughnut in Action: Introducing Climate City Initiative in South Korea

We are pleased to introduce 'Climate City initiative,' an urban transition project grounded in the Doughnut Economics model, equipped with an implementation strategy and delivery structure. Launched in 2026 by the climate policy think tank IGT(Institute for Green Transformation), this initiative seeks to turn the Doughnut model—until now discussed mainly within civil society—into a reality of urban transition that meets both planetary boundaries and social foundations, this time in partnership with city governments. The initiative has already begun collaborative projects with several cities across Korea.

Through Global Doughnut Day 2026, we introduce the newly launched Climate City initiative. This online seminar will bring together the voices of the cities, who have been adopting the Doughnut model in their own regions - Copenhagen, Glasgow, and Tomelilla.
도넛모델에 기반해 실행전략과 이행구조를 갖춘 도시전환 프로젝트인 '기후도시'를 소개합니다. 기후정책 싱크탱크 녹색전환연구소가 2026년 시작한 이 이니셔티브는 그동안 시민사회 중심으로 논의되어 온 도넛모델을, 이제 도시 정부와 함께 생태적 한계와 사회적 기초를 동시에 충족하는 도시 전환으로 실현하고자 하며, 현재 한국의 여러 도시들과 협업 프로젝트를 시작한 상태입니다.
글로벌 도넛데이 2026을 통해 이제 막 시작된 기후도시 이니셔티브를 소개합니다. 온라인으로 열리는 이번 세미나에서는 국내외에서 이미 도넛모델을 적용해본 시민사회, 정책 협력자, 연구자들의 목소리를 함께 들어볼 예정입니다.
