mir(ë) festival films against war

As part of the 7th edition of Films Against War festivals, we are happy to present the Mir(ë) film festival taking place during Eastern European month on April 25th 2026 from 14:30 to 19:00 in the Peace House (Rue Van Elewyck 35, 1050 Ixelles) in Brussels. Organised by Aleks and Nastia from the NoMoreWar collective, their Serbian and Russian origins inspired them to organise a film festival dedicated to fights against oppression and militarism from their home countries. The intersectionality between antimilitarism and oppression against the LGBTQIA+ is central in the curation of the shorts projected in this festival.

Behind the name

Mir(ë) comes from proto-baltic-slavic languages that use the root “mir” in words designating “peace”, “world” or “good”.

Мир in Ukrainian, Serbian, Macedonian, Russian;

Mip in Belarus;

Mír in Czech and Slovak; Mir in Polish, Slovenian and Bosnian Miers in Latvian, Lithuanian; all mean "peace". Mirë in Albaninan and in Kosovare means "good".
