Integration with your file system, notes, highlights, etc.

Focus tools (timers, word counts, typewriter mode)

Keyboard shortcuts for formatting and tools

Customizable fonts, background, interface

All my needs are covered, and everything is smooth, so no need to switch

I'd experiment with new tools in parts of my process to reduce friction

Unsatisfied with my tools, so I'd shift my whole process to a new place

I have no publishing habit or preferred tool yet, so I'm open to anything

I want a writing tool as a standalone desktop app

I want to type essay.new to start a new doc

I want to use it inside an AI app (ChatGPT, Claude)

Documents (editing files inside the AI app)

MCP / connectors (link your data and apps to chat)

Code tools (building prototypes or tools)

I don't want AI personalized to me. I prefer fresh responses that don't guess what I want from past conversations.

I like that ChatGPT or Claude automatically builds a sense of my preferences.

I deliberately build system prompts, workflows, and project folders so AI has the right files at the right time.

Ideally, AI has access to all the files, notes, and writing on my computer, for maximum context on any task.

Just my main tool (ChatGPT, Claude), about $20/mo

Several tools (e.g. Wispr, Pangram, plus 1–2 more), $20–200/mo
