Government has made it clear that citizens are expected to be responsible for their safety and prevention of GBV. Events are spaces in which individuals often find themselves in a vulnerable state. Late nights, alcohol, unfamiliar venues, guests travelling alone, etc., are exactly where GBV risk shows up. This implies that the event industry needs to contribute to preventing GBV, planning for prevention in the same way we treat every other risk in a room — as something we design for, not something we hope doesn't happen. Those rooms and the prevention mechanisms in them, are built by the people who plan them long before anyone walks in. Who's watching the door, who's walking someone to their car, who's named as the safe person(s) before anyone needs them?
