Request for Musical Instrument Tuition 2026-27

Bourne Community College has a tradition of generous music provision as our Music Department is supported by a team of peripatetic music tutors. This is the information about the Musical Instrument Tuition we off so you can decide if you would like your son or daughter to take up a musical instrument at Bourne Community College. No previous playing experience is necessary to begin tuition, however, we expect a commitment to attending lessons and practising at home to make good progress. Students who already play or have received tuition before and wish to make further progress will take priority if available spaces are limited. Musical instrument tuition is available in: - Piano & Keyboard - Singing – musical theatre, pop, classical and jazz - Woodwind – clarinet, flute and saxophone - Guitar – acoustic, electric and bass - Drum kit - Strings - violin and viola - Trumpet - LAMDA - please see the extra information at the end of this page - DJ Skills - these lessons are NOT run by the school but by an independent company. Lessons are weekly and last for 25 minutes with 36 timetabled over the academic year. Fees per 25 minute lesson are charged as follows:
- individual - £14.00 per lesson
- paired - £9.50 per lesson
- group - £8.50 per lesson (LAMDA only)
Fees are charged half termly and are reviewed annually. Invoices are sent to parents' email addresses at the start of each half term with payment made on ParentPay. Information on pupil premium funding for Musical Instrument Tuition is below. In order to avoid students missing too much of any one timetabled school lesson, musical instrument tuition times are rotated each week. Priority for lunch and after school slots are given to Year 11 students. Students are expected to inform their subject teacher at the start of each school lesson that they will need to be excused in order to attend their instrument lesson. Students are expected to arrive five minutes early each week to ensure a prompt start. Students are expected to attend all their musical instrument lessons and to inform their music tutor as soon as they know of any problems and wherever possible the week before. Credit cannot be given for a student’s non-attendance at a scheduled musical instrument lesson due to illness. However, where advance notice is given for trips, exams, appointments etc the music tutor will try to reschedule the lesson at a later date. ★ One half-term’s notice is required to discontinue tuition, otherwise a half-term’s fee will be charged in lieu ★ The cut of date for this will be published in each invoice. We use Google Classroom to support musical instrument tuition. Your child will be invited to join a Google Classroom using their school ‘@bournecc.co.uk’ email account where they will see their timetable and can communicate with their music tutor outside of lesson times in a safe manner. We also ask for a parent email address so you can receive parental update emails. Students are encouraged to undertake performance exams appropriate to their instrumental level. Students are entered by the music tutors and exams take place either in school or at an external venue depending on the exam board. There is an additional cost involved in performance exams which parents pay for in full on top of the musical instrument tuition fees. If you would like your son/daughter to take up tuition on an instrument please complete the form. You are asked to choose a first and second choice instrument. If no spaces are available for the first choice, students will be allocated a space for your second choice instrument. If no spaces are available for either instrument, students will be added to the waiting list for their first choice. We do our best to accommodate as many students as possible but please be aware that we have a fixed number of slots available. Pupil Premium Funding for Musical Instrument Tuition
Students who are in receipt of free school meals are eligible to apply for up to half of the fees for musical instrument tuition to be funded from their pupil premium allocation. If this applies please tick the box on the next page. You will need to contact Mr Acquah at school for details.
Students in Years 10 and 11 who continue to study music or performing arts will be allocated an individual lesson so they receive full support with their studies.
When funding is approved students in Years 7 to 9 will be allocated a paired lesson. This also applies to students in Years 10 and 11 who don't study music or performing arts.

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) 

LAMDA is a world leading conservatoire offering a range of globally recognised courses including public speaking, verse & prose, musical theatre, mime, devising and dramatic art which are aimed at empowering people of all ages and backgrounds. 

Students who achieve level 3 qualifications (grade 6 to 8) are included in the UCAS tariff.  

LAMDA exams are nationally recognised and are a fantastic opportunity to challenge learners and gain more skills that will serve them in all kinds of careers. The lessons and examinations help to develop a learner’s ability to;  

• Read easily, fluently and with good understanding
• Expand vocabulary to improve powers of self-expression
• Improve confidence in speaking and listening
• Memorise and recall information
• Research and create persuasive formal presentations
• Create and defend arguments
• Engage in constructive informal conversation 

DJ lessons DJ lessons are run by NextGen Music and are taught either individually or as a pair following the FutureDJs programme of DJing. Lessons last for 30 minutes each week. Students who want to study music at GCSE level are able to use their DJ skills for the performance part of the course. Through DJing, students can learn the fundamentals of music and open a gateway to a whole new world of music production, songwriting, and composing. In our study programme, we teach music using decks and live performance technology. Whether music is learnt using a piano or a sequencer, the outcome is the same.
