Riga Aditya - Warmth in Flavor and Stories
Artist Statement: “Warmth in Flavor and Stories” is my interpretation of the theme “Dumpling World Tour.” Through six different types of dumplings—gyoza, shumai, xiaolongbao, sambosa, ravioli, and mandu—I explore how food can connect people across cultures and become part of meaningful everyday moments.
Beyond their different shapes, flavors, and cultural origins, dumplings share a universal role: they accompany moments of togetherness, friendship, family, celebration, and even quiet moments of self-care. The illustration portrays these simple yet precious experiences, showing how food can carry stories, create connections, and bring warmth into our lives.
Through this work, I hope to convey that although dumplings come from different parts of the world, the stories and emotions surrounding them can be universally understood. In the end, dumplings are not only about food, but also about the people, memories, and moments that make them meaningful.

Debjani - Dumplings Forever !!
Artist Statement: “Dumplings Forever” imagines a planet where love is abundant enough to be air-dropped into the wilderness, where even the most remote corners of the earth are included in the circle of nourishment and joy.
This project celebrates “dumpling” as world art: a shape that travels, adapts, and unites. My work is an act of devotion to the idea that love is made in repetition, in ritual, in the patient folding of care into something we can give away.
Through this lens, “dumpling” is more than a dish—it is a language of love that needs no translation.

Shin Tsz Lucy - Passing Down the Pleat
Artist Statement: Dumplings have always been more than food in Chinese culture - they are an act of gathering, patience, and care. In this photo, that tradition crosses cultural lines as our friend guides beginners, of a different cultural background, through the rhythmic, delicate process of pleating dough and sealing filling. The flour-dusted hands and shared laughter around the table capture food as a universal language: one where heritage isn't kept behind closed doors, but generously offered, learned, and celebrated together.

Medium: Procreate digital illustration - i drew this myself - NO AI
Artist Statement: To me, a dumpling is more than food. It is something we carry with us: a recipe, a memory, a language, and a connection to the people who came before us.
As a Chinese American, I see my family’s story in the hands that make a dumpling. My grandmother’s heritage begins in Beijing, my mother’s life continued in New York, and mine has unfolded in San Francisco. Three places, three generations, and one tradition connect us.
In my painting, three generations gather around a single jiaozi. My grandmother’s hands hold the tradition, my mother’s hands continue the craft, and my hand reaches forward to carry it into the next generation. The dumpling’s folds become a metaphor for the layers of our family history: shaped by where we came from, where we have lived, and what we choose to preserve.
For me, this is a quiet form of Asian heroism. It is found not only in extraordinary acts, but in the everyday courage to remember, adapt, and pass something meaningful forward. Every time we fold a dumpling, we are also folding a little piece of home into the future.

Coey - Pan-Fried Dumplings
Artist Statement: As a child, one of my favorite lunches was a plate of fried corn and pork dumplings. My mother and grandmother would always make them for me on the weekends, so I associated pan-fried dumplings with comfort and the warmth of home. I decided to draw my original character enjoying the same dumplings I enjoyed in my childhood. Although I have eaten many types of dumplings in my life, the pan-fried, corn and pork dumplings will always stand out in my memory and remind me of my family’s love.

Shirley - A Serving of Dumplings
Artist Statement: This illustration is of a girl holding a plate of xiaolongbao(soup dumplings) and dressed in a short qipao (aka short cheongsam), a dress that evolved during the 1930s, China. The short qipao represents how I was born in America but was highly influenced by the cultures of my family, who are from China (since the short qipao was a dress influenced by western fashion). The number of dumplings on each plate represents the people I care most about. The first plate has five dumplings, representing my family. The second plate has three dumplings, representing my three best friends. Lastly, the last plate, with only one dumpling, represents me. I specifically chose soup dumplings because those are the dumplings I had the most happy memories with. Whether it was eating them with my family, or getting soup everywhere because there was too much soup, I’ve always enjoyed eating soup dumplings.

Marcelline - Lucky Dumplings
Artist Statement: First of all, I love dumplings, in all shapes and sizes, across different cuisines. Lucky Dumplings celebrates the many shapes, names and personalities of dumplings found around the world. From shumai and gyoza and mandu to xiao long bao and more, I was inspired by how something as simple as dough wrapped around a filling can connect so many different cultures.
I gave each dumpling its own playful personality, surrounding the drawings with handwritten names and layered color to create the feeling of a crowded, joyful gathering. For me, dumplings are comfort food! They bring joy to me, whenever I eat them, and even better, I get more joy out of sharing them.

Voon's Artwork
Artist Statement: Painting watercolor is a way for me to express my worldview. Layers of transparent colors interact with the texture of the paper. There is a contrast between the dark tone and white space—the balance of warm and cold color temperature. I can't control or change anything that happens in this world, but I can try to create a sense of balance and harmony in my painting.
