Self-test: Are You Emotionally Dependent?

Answer the following six questions and choose how often each statement applies to you.

1 = Never 2 = Rarely 3 = Sometimes 4 = Often 5 = Always

1. How often do you need reassurance from your partner that they love you, are faithful to you, or still want the relationship?
For example, by asking questions such as: “Do you still love me?”, “Is there someone else?”, or “Are we okay?”

2. How often are you afraid that your partner might leave you or become emotionally distant?
For example, when they do not reply to a message or seem more distant than usual.

3. How often does your sense of security or self-worth depend on how much affection, attention, or reassurance you receive from your partner?
For example, you feel noticeably better about yourself when you receive closeness, compliments, or recognition.

4. How often do you put your own needs, wishes, or boundaries aside to avoid conflict or disappointment in the relationship?
For example, you give up something that matters to you because your partner might not approve of it.

5. How often do you feel empty, anxious, or lost when your partner is not with you or when you spend longer periods alone?
For example, you hardly know what to do with yourself when your partner is unavailable.

6. How often do you go along with your partner’s wishes or demands even when they do not feel right to you, because you want to avoid conflict, rejection, or a breakup?
This may involve areas such as sex, leisure time, friendships, or personal decisions.
