transition radio 2027 residencies open-call

Introduction

Dear all,
transition radio's 6th season is coming to an end, the 7th is already in the pipeline. We are very much looking forward to reading your residency project, thank you for submitting it !
We welcome all kind of content, all musical genres and other mediums, from poetry to death metal, electronic or classical music, theater and more. Your residency can be anything, as long as it feels right to you. It doesn't have to be all about music. You can do it alone, or with some friends, and welcome guests from all over. You can organise DJ sets, conferences, some live shows are also possible, as long as they fit within our limited technical setup. You can also simply yap about that one topic you are so passionate about. Surprise us ! You have complete carte blanche. Read carefully

Here are a few things to consider before applying. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, even if you are re applying from a previous residency : * When selecting residents, we will aim for as much diversity as possible, encouraging multiple and varied project forms and genres. We are looking for unique projects and ideas. More theoretical or political subjects are welcome (not just music) ! Also, * Your format has to fit into our space, which is small and technically limited. If you want to do a live show or invite a guest who will, please be aware that we are no sound engineers. Our lovely hosts will do everything to help of course, but you have to know how to set up your own gears. * Diversity in your residency is non-negotiable, and the exclusive promotion of privileged individuals will not be tolerated. Privileged people are those who fit into a society where everything is made by and for them. When choosing your guests (if you have any), consider diversity in terms of gender, identity, sexuality, race, disability, and social and cultural background. This is something we are going to pay attention to when selecting the residents. * All shows are livestreamed from our studio at Bluefactory in Fribourg. You must be physically present for your residency. We do not accept pre-recorded shows or sets. * One residency consists of 4 episodes of 1 or 2 hours each. In the form, you will have to choose the right duration, depending on what you want to do. That duration will stay the same throughout the whole season, you can't change it from episode to episode. * transition radio is a non-profit, volunteer-run association with no salaries. Like many cultural projects, we face financial challenges in securing funding. Despite this, we acknowledge the effort of every artist and strive to reimburse transportation costs for our residents and their guests within our means. transportation costs can be reimbursed only when needed and must be requested on site. We can provide reimbursement only as long as we are able to do so.

Reimbursement is therefore not guaranteed for the entire duration of the season, even though we always do our best to make it possible.

For accounting reasons NO REIMBURSEMENT will be issued after the show has taken place.

WE REIMBURSE A MAXIMUM OF TWO TRANSPORTS PER SHOW :

* Train tickets: reimbursed at half fare and only within Swiss territory.

* Car expenses: reimbursed at a flat rate based on distance traveled (calculated via Michelin, excluding vignette costs).

* Your residency will last for one season. Each year, we start afresh, giving everyone the chance to join the radio. Having a residency one season does not guarantee you will have another one. You will need to apply again if you wish to extend your residency. * A graphic cover will be requested for each residency. It would be great if you could adapt it for each of your shows for social media content diversity. * Please note that we usually do not record full videos of the shows, only short clips. If you would like a full recording, this is possible, but you must inform the host before your show starts and bring an empty/new USB stick or a hard drive with enough available space (the ones used by DJs for playing are not sufficient). We will not send recordings by email. * Due to the frequency of our broadcasts, we can only accept a limited number of residencies. Unfortunately, if your residency is not selected, we will not be able to provide full feedback, as we receive a large number of submissions. * We expect our residents to make a serious commitment to their residency. Running transition radio takes a lot of energy, and all that energy is given to you by a wonderful team of volunteers. We expect clear, consistent, and effective communication from all our residents, as well as a commitment to completing internal communication forms related to their shows accurately and on time. Keep in mind that transition radio is a collective project built on shared commitment and mutual responsibility. When communication and individual commitments are neglected, the impact goes beyond our volunteers' time and resources, affecting the project and the community as a whole. Residency spots are limited, and we want everyone selected to make the most of this opportunity.

We therefore encourage you to approach your residency with commitment and care, respecting the time and energy that our volunteers and fellow residents dedicate to making transition radio possible.

* Feel free to fill in as much of the form as you like if you have different types of projects in mind * All your information will remain confidential
