Data Storyteller & Investigative Researcher

About the role
The India Notes is a leading newsletter, read every week by 19,000+ of India's founders, investors, and operators, the people at Google, CRED, Flipkart, Blume, and Elevation Capital who have to understand the Indian consumer before they bet on them. It decodes what Indians actually do with their money, their apps, their time, and their trust, through an ethnographic lens rooted in real stories.
It is the public face of 1990 Research Labs, a consumer-research studio that has spent a decade answering one question for companies like Meta, Duolingo, HDFC Bank, and CRED: why do people do what they do.
The opportunity
We want one person to own the research and writing behind all of it. This is the rare seat where data, behavioural science, and technology converge into storytelling. In a single week you might take apart an RBI dataset, read a behavioural-economics paper, and track a product launch catching fire on X, then braid all three into a story. If "why did India just do that" is the most interesting question you can think of, this was built for you.
What you'll do
Live inside how India decides, then turn it into deeply researched stories. The newsletter first, then research packs for the podcast, then the social posts that pull people back. Own a weekly cadence.
