Fort Shepherd Conservancy Area Community Survey

Fort Shepherd Conservation Area (FSCA) is a 2,200-acre property along 8 km of the Columbia River, south of Trail, B.C.. The Land Conservancy of BC (TLC) privately holds title to the property and cares for it in perpetuity as a conservancy area.

FSCA protects a large and relatively intact area of very dry, warm Interior Cedar-Hemlock woodlands and grasslands and provides important habitat for many rare and at-risk species. It also has deep cultural and historical connections, including to Indigenous communities, the Dewdney Trail, and the former Hudson’s Bay Company Fort Shepherd.

Today, people connect with FSCA in many different ways. It is a place for wildlife and conservation, recreation, research and education, cultural connections, and community stewardship.

As we look ahead to the next 10 years, we want to better understand the many ways people value and connect with this place and how we can continue caring for its ecological and cultural values while supporting compatible community uses.
