An Urgent Call: Help Nutritious Foods Uganda Grow Food & Hope
Dear Friends,
My name is Joshua Kevins. I’m reaching out to you today not just as a person, but as someone who believes that small acts of kindness can change entire communities. I work with
Nutritious Foods Uganda, a small community initiative with one big goal: to grow nutritious food, create jobs for youth, and help families feed themselves with dignity.
And right now, we are at a turning point. We need your help.
Our story: losing and fighting to get back our landA few months ago, we were renting land to start our farm. We had a dream to grow healthy crops, teach young people agriculture, and fight malnutrition in our area. Then we fell behind on rent. We didn’t have the money. The landlord told us to leave. It broke us. We borrowed. We did extra work. We pleaded. Finally, by God’s grace, we raised enough to compensate the landlord and he gave us the land back. Today, we
have the land again. That feels like a miracle. But friends, having land is only step one.
We have land, but we don’t have what we need to use itThe rains have started, but only a little. In Southern Uganda where our project is, we are crossed by the equator. The weather is changing. In Northern Uganda, it’s even harder — too much sunshine and heat. The land is dry and crops can’t grow through the whole year without help. To keep our crops alive, we must prepare irrigation systems now. Without water, all this land will sit empty.
We also urgently need:
1.
Farming inputs: seeds, tools, fertilizers, and irrigation pipes so we can plant and grow nutritious foods year-round.
2.
Computers and data systems: We need 1-2 computers to keep records, track donations, and show transparency. Organizations won’t partner with us if we can’t show proper records.
3.
Operational support: Paying club taxes, transport, and small support for the youth who work daily on the farm.
4.
Training programs: To teach 50+ youth and women how to farm, start small businesses, and care for the environment.
The youth in our community are full of power, vision, and dreams. But they are waiting for opportunities. Many think of starting a small business but lack implementation. We want to give them work, skills, and hope instead of waiting. Life experience is not a curse. It’s about mindset and the willpower to do something.
Why this mattersIn Uganda, students who do well in Senior Four and University can get scholarships and allowances. But for many youth who didn’t get that chance, life is harder. They need jobs. They need land to practice creativity and innovation, especially in agriculture. Right now we are still renting. The landlord may need his land back in 5 months. Our biggest prayer is to one day own our own land so we can plan long-term and not live in fear.
Learning is the key to success. It widens the mind about how people behave and how we can solve problems together. The residents in Northern Uganda have already started taking positive action to regenerate the land. We want to do the same here. We want to show that with the right support, communities can feed themselves.
What your support will doIf we raise these funds, here is what will happen in the next 6 months:
•
Weeks 1-4: Set up irrigation so crops don’t die in dry spells. Plant beans, greens, and other nutritious foods.
•
Months 2-3: Buy computers and set up our records system. This opens doors for bigger grants and partnerships.
•
Months 4-5: Keep 10 youth employed and pay organizational costs so we stay legal and running.
•
Month 6+: Train community members and start saving to buy our own land.
We are not a big NGO. We are people from this community, using our own hands to solve our own problems.
My personal plea to youSome days I get tired. Some days I wonder if we can really do this. But then I see a young person plant their first seed. I see a mother learn to cook more nutritious meals. I see that even with little rain, something grows if we prepare. That’s why I’m writing you today. We almost lost everything. We got the land back. That tells me this work must continue. But we can’t do it alone.
