Growing Hope Together: Support Timothy’s Garden for Zero Hunger
Hello everyone. My name is Timothy Swallehz. I come from the beautiful eastern region of Africa, in Uganda. I am a gardener, a farmer, and most importantly, I am someone who believes that no one in our community should go to bed hungry.
For years now, I have dedicated my time and my hands to the soil. I like #gardening, I care deeply about #climatechange, and I am committed to the global goal of #zerohunger. I plant crops so that I can feed the people in my community and society. This is not just work for me; this is my purpose. Today, I am humbly asking for your help to expand my community garden and buy the basic garden equipment we need to grow more food, feed more families, and fight climate change right here at home.
Why This Garden Matters
In eastern Uganda, many families struggle every single day to put food on the table. The rains are no longer predictable. The soil is tired. Prices of food keep going up. I started with a small piece of land and very simple tools. With seeds, water, and prayer, I began planting crops—beans, greens, bananas, mangoes, and other nutritious foods. Every harvest, I share with neighbors, elders, and families who have nothing. But the need is bigger than what I can do alone. This garden is my answer to that pain. My goal is simple: Grow food. Share food. Teach others to grow food. If we can grow enough here, we reduce hunger. If we can teach sustainable methods, we fight #climatechange. If we can create dignity through work, we build a stronger #community.
The Challenge We Face
Right now, I am doing everything with borrowed and broken tools. A dull hoe. A leaking watering can. No irrigation when the dry season comes. No fencing, so goats and chickens destroy the crops. No proper storage, so part of the harvest goes to waste. And seeds—good, climate-resistant seeds—are expensive. I can plant with my hands, but my hands alone are not enough. To feed more people, I need equipment. To survive climate change, I need water systems. To protect the garden, I need support. That is why I am asking you to stand with me.
My Vision: A Garden That Feeds and Teaches
With your support, I want to build more than just a garden; I want to build a place of hope.
1. Feed Hungry Families: Every week, a portion of the harvest will go directly to vulnerable families, widows, and children in the community who struggle with hunger.
2. Fight Climate Change: We will use sustainable practices—composting, mulching, rainwater harvesting, and drought-resistant crops—to show that we can farm even as the climate changes.
3. Create Learning: Neighbors, especially youth, can come and learn how to plant, grow, and harvest. Knowledge is the seed that never finishes.
4. Promote Zero Hunger: This garden is my small contribution to the UN’s #ZeroHunger goal. If one community can do it, others can too. This is work that creates food, skills, and dignity.
How Your Donation Will Help - Garden Equipment & Needs
Every dollar goes directly into the soil. We need:
- Basic Garden Tools ($400): Strong tools (hoes, pangas, rakes) that can last for years.
- Water & Irrigation System ($600): Water tank, pipes, and drip irrigation kits to fight dry spells.
- Seeds, Seedlings & Inputs ($350): Nutritious, climate-smart vegetable seeds, fruit seedlings, and organic fertilizer.
- Garden Protection & Infrastructure ($450): Fencing materials, storage sheds, and shade nets.
- Training & Community Outreach ($200): Workshops for youth and women on sustainable gardening.
I know times are hard everywhere. But I also know that kindness crosses borders. I am just one person in eastern Uganda with a hoe and a dream. A Request for Support & Land Security
Beyond tools and seeds, I am facing an urgent challenge with my garden land. I am currently renting this plot, but the landlord needs to reclaim it soon to begin construction on new infrastructure.
I am looking for kind support to help me secure this land or find and transition to a new location where I can continue this work for my community. Additionally, I am seeking a kind soul to help me set up a GoFundMe page, this go fund me will be mainly for fundraising for the land do that in the remaining time we can alteast get another place where our project will be continuing as I am not familiar with the process.
