GET STARTED, SOMEONE WILL FINISH: a night of readings presented by Overland and the New International Bookshop

The second poem in Diane di Prima's Revolutionary Letters (1971) presents us with a powerful promise:

The value of an individual life a credo they taught us to instill fear, and inaction, "you only live once" a fog in our eyes, we are endless as the sea, not separate, we die a million times a day, we are born a million times, each breath life and death: get up, put on your shoes, get started, someone will finish Tribe an organism, one flesh, breathing joy as the stars breathe destiny down on us, get going, join hands, see to business, thousands of sons will see to it when you fall, you will grow a thousand times in the bellies of your sisters

What sustains a movement when the bodies change but the fight remains? How do we stand together without demanding the same story from each other? Join us for an evening of readings and reflection on intergenerational political legacies. In collaboration with the New International Bookshop, this evening brings together six writers spanning generations of political and poetic practice to share work that grapples with what we inherit from those who came before—and what we owe to those who come after.
