The Goal

Since January 2025, Black women have been leaving and losing jobs at a rate that has made headlines and shaped policy debates. This survey is mapping what that has actually looked like, up close, in the words of the people living it.

This builds on the Voluntary Exit Project, which has been documenting coerced and chosen exits from work since the Great Resignation. Wave 2 narrows the lens to this specific window of time, under the specific forces of federal layoffs, the rollback of DEI, and hiring processes run by algorithms none of us can see inside.

I am an independent researcher doing this work for the community, not for a company or a corporation. This is for the archive.

Your Privacy You are safe here. I do not collect IP addresses, legal names, or any metadata that could trace back to your physical or digital self. If you mention a specific employer or hiring platform, that's your choice — you're never required to name anyone.

How This Work is Used I will look for patterns in these stories to write essays and to inform a larger research report. This project will help show the world the truth of what we are going through.

Your Rights You are the boss of your story. You can stop answering these questions at any time. You don’t owe this project anything.
