ℹ️ The Vegan Trap: are we making animal advocacy harder than it needs to be? Veganism can be a tough message to communicate, and moral appeals often trigger defensiveness rather than change. In this talk, Tobias Leenaert unpacks why people resist vegan messaging, drawing on psychology and movement experience, and shares practical ways to reduce pushback through better framing and audience fit. He also turns the lens inward: how our attachment to a vegan ideal can sometimes lead to rigid, all-or-nothing thinking that limits impact. The talk offers a pragmatic, principle-aligned approach to advocacy focused on what helps the most animals in the real world.
ℹ️ Animal Activism between despair and hope. Do you still believe in humanity? Looking at the state of the world today, and at the things humans do to animals and the planet, it is easy to despair. Maybe you've seen some people around you give up hope, say it's too late, and withdraw from advocacy. Tobias Leenaert has been active in the animal movement for almost thirty years, and in all that time has seen his faith in humanity go up and down a lot. In this talk he shares why he at times despairs and gets angry, but also how he deals with these emotions. Above all, he explains the reasons why we should be optimistic, and what we can do to keep on keeping on.
