Host/Reporter

We're hiring for a Host/Reporter to work full time at Roca.

Company Description

Started by three friends in 2020, Roca is the US’ largest Gen Z-focused news source, with more than 4M followers and subscribers across platforms. Roca's mission is to capture the world without bias or fear. We deliver two types of news:

-Daily news and deep dives that break down current events without spin or fearmongering

-On-the-ground reporting that captures, without bias or fear, how people are living

Role Description

The role is a mix of video production and writing. You'll host and produce mini-docs for our YouTube channel. If you've watched one of our videos and thought, "I'd love to make that," this job is for you. You'll travel a lot, see the world, and work long hours on tight deadlines. If that's not what you want, no need to apply. If it is what you want, apply ASAP! We're looking for people who obsess over doing great work.

We’re specifically looking for someone who is curious, knowledgeable about current events, highly conversational, and confident on camera.

You'll also research and write original reports for our newsletter and weekend magazine. These include daily news reporting, topical deep-dives, and long-form articles for the Roca Mag. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer who brings their own original reporting ideas. You will be responsible for sourcing and conducting interviews, researching topics, and writing multiple pieces each week.

Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is:

-Mission-Aligned. We are fiercely non-partisan. We believe established news outlets are often biased and out-of-touch; influencers are often poorly informed and sensationalist; and cable news networks are hopelessly partisan. Being aligned with this mission is a prerequisite for working at Roca.

-A Strong Writer. In addition to hosting YouTube videos, you will be writing for our Substack, the Roca Mag. You must be a strong writer.

-Strong on Camera. As a face of Roca, it’s critical that you are confident and sociable both on and off the camera.

-Knowledgeable About Current Events. You’ll be making videos about the most pressing issues, from AI to foreign policy and immigration. You have to know what’s going on, and how to concisely convey the information in video and written form.

-Extremely Organized. You'll be coordinating travel, schedules, footage, deadlines, news writing, and multiple projects at once. You should be able to work in a fast-paced news environment and be willing to work on weekends.

-Curious. You should genuinely enjoy learning about unfamiliar places and people and figuring out what makes a story interesting.

-Ambitious. Roca is a growing company with big goals. We want someone who wants responsibility, moves quickly, and is excited to build.

-Nose for Good Video Content. You will be responsible for planning and executing reporting trips. What are our viewers interested in seeing? What’s a good story?

-Willing to Learn. You won't have all the answers on day one. You must be willing and able to grow into the role.

-Note: Journalism degree/experience is not required.

-Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and able to relocate to New York City.

Location This is a full-time, fully in-person position based out of Roca’s office in New York City.
