Petition to the General Mayor, Mayor and Councillors of Cumberland Council.
Residents call on Cumberland Council:
- To make a commitment to human rights, international humanitarian law and ethical governance.
- To introduce an Ethical Procurement Policy that includes putting in place the BDS (boycott, divest, and sanction) principles with mandatory ethics and human rights clauses in contracts.
- To ban all future procurement from companies that support human rights abuses and war crimes in Palestine. Some examples of these include Intel, Dell, HP and Cisco.
- To cancel existing contracts with companies that support or profit from Israel's illegal occupation and settlement of Palestine, including companies that supply equipment and services to the Israeli Defence Force.
- This council represents a diverse, multicultural and multi-faith community and must activly stand against all forms of racism, including anti-Palestinian racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism.
- The council needs to regularly review and report back to the community, demonstrating that resident's rates are not being used to fund genocide.
