Mama Earth Organics is moving from its longtime home of East York to Mississauga and terminating its unionized workforce of over 100 people. Hourly employees are not guaranteed jobs at the new facility, leaving the company free to hire a completely new non-union workforce.

Thank you so much for all of the ways that you have shown your support! Now you can also show your support for these workers and their fight for a fair deal by joining this pledge.

If you’re currently a Mama Earth customer: You don’t need to cancel your subscription. You can sign the support pledge to tell Mama Earth that you expect the workers’ basic demands to be met for them to keep your business.

If you’re not a customer or you’ve decided to cancel your subscription: You can also support by signing the pledge to show that you’ll consider subscribing only once the workers are respected!

PLEDGE OF SUPPORT

TO: Mama Earth Organics

Mama Earth Organics has chosen to issue its entire unionized workforce of over 100 people with termination notices. Only non-union employees are being offered roles at the new facility, all while existing union members will be required to re-apply for their current jobs, with no certainty.

I am appalled by the decision to move locations without guaranteeing employment or recognizing union representation for the workers. These workers have stood shoulder to shoulder and built a strong sense of community over time that is now being jeopardized.

I am concerned that the employees are being thrown into uncertainty during a time of increasing unemployment, rising cost of living, and widespread precarity.

I support the demands of the workers for a fair and reasonable deal:

- Full recognition of their union and collective agreement at the new facility.

- A one-time cost of living adjustment to reflect the drastic increase in the cost of living.

- Continuation of health benefits after the facility closure to ensure that workers and their families won’t go without vital care and medication while between jobs.

- Severance that respects each employee's full years of service and follows the terms of the collective agreement.

As a member of the community who cares about sustainable practices that truly put people and the planet first, I pledge to take the following steps:

1. If I am a current customer, I will not permanently cancel my subscription while the company reconsiders its harmful actions. I will only commit to remaining as a Mama Earth customer once the workers are offered an agreement that is fair and acceptable to them.

2. If I am not currently a customer, I will only consider becoming one on the condition that the workers are offered an agreement that is fair and acceptable to them.

3. In the event that the company does not offer an acceptable deal, I will be forced to reconsider giving my business to Mama Earth Organics.

4. Should the company unfairly retaliate or discipline any workers who choose to take action in defence of their coworkers, I will also be forced to reconsider giving my business to Mama Earth Organics.

I strongly appeal to Mama Earth Organics to show workers the same respect that they have shown to the company through their hard work and loyalty over many years!

Sincerely,
