COMMUNITY CALL

THE PROJECT

Serving as a multi-use studio, UNDERPRACTICE aims to provide a space that facilitates artistic practice, research, and embodied work, with a focus on community and experimentation.

This space will serve local artists and practitioners in East London, adapted to a wide spectrum of practices: from performance art and movement, to music, visual arts, and even wellness and tattooing.

It will operate as a flexible environment that adapts to different needs, while maintaining a strong identity rooted in process, intimacy, and counterculture.

Alongside, we will also curate events involving the artist community and the local scene, hosted either within this space or at partner venues
THE SPACE
Our studio will be designed to support the development of independent practices. Especially intended to support emerging artists and practitioners, as well as non-profit and community projects.
All furniture will be provided free of charge, including treatment tables, stools, desks, pole, and even yoga mats and towels. We will operate a cafe/bar in the reception area, where you will be offered complimentary refreshments, including bottled water, energy drinks, and tea, as well as a menu of other drinks you can purchase like barista coffee, smoothies and even alcoholic beverages.
The space will be available for hire to anyone at a flat hourly rate, for independent practice or private appointments.
Only community members and invited guests will be permitted to host classes and workshops, and community bookings will be prioritised.

COMMUNITY ARTISTS AND RESIDENT PRACTITIONERS

We are currently gathering applications from artists and practitioners interested in becoming part of our community at UNDERPRACTICE.

By joining our community, members will gain:

- Priority access to the space, with ability to book dates two weeks before the general calendar is released.
- Reduced rates
- Ability to host classes, which will not be possible on general bookings. This includes the use of our booking system, with no commission and no administrative burden. All classes will be included in our official studio calendar, with all bookings and sales managed by us, and 100% of revenue returned to the practitioner.
- Residencies, allowing you to access the space consistently at your desired frequency, be it for independent practice, appointments or classes.
- Promotion and documentation. We will document members’ practices and promote their work through our social media channels, as well as produce marketing materials for classes and appointments.
- Involvement in curated events, which we will be curating inside and outside the studio promoting and celebrating the communities talent as well as the local scene.
- Online community Platform, to access all of the above.
Once we have received a sufficient number of responses, we will announce a submission deadline, which will be set one week from that point.
These community calls will take place once a year only.
There is no fee or commitment required to become part of our community. If you would like to join this project, simply complete the form using the button below.
