Software Engineer Intern - AI Infrastructure @ Deep Variance

Note: This role is not available to candidates requiring F1 OPT sponsorship.

Who we are
Deep Variance builds systems that improve the efficiency and performance of AI workloads by optimizing how they run on hardware. The focus is on reducing inference cost, improving throughput, and making large-scale AI systems more reliable through low-level systems innovation.
Role Overview
This summer internship focuses on bridging research and production. The work involves developing and validating research-driven optimizations for AI inference systems, and translating them into usable, production-ready components. The role requires strong systems thinking, experimentation, and close collaboration with both technical and product stakeholders.
Responsibilities
•. Work closely with the R&D team to develop and implement research prototypes for optimizing AI inference workflows
    •    Evaluate and validate system performance through benchmarking, profiling, and experimentation
    •    Support product-oriented evaluation, logging, and observability for AI systems
    •    Collaborate with the founding team to improve system usability, reliability, and output quality
    •    Participate in technical discussions, architecture reviews, and product planning sessions
    •    Engage with external organizations to understand requirements and guide adoption of optimization solutions
Who should apply
    •    Master’s students in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields
    •    Strong interest in systems engineering, GPU computing, or AI infrastructure
    •    Experience with Python and/or C++ (CUDA or low-level systems experience is a plus)
    •    Comfortable working in research-driven, fast-paced environments with evolving requirements
Strict requirements
    •    Must be authorized to work under CPT during the internship period
    •    Must return to academic study after the summer internship
    •    Open only to students from Indiana University Bloomington, Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on scope and level of contribution
