About Taama

At Taama we're building the operating system for global product compliance.

Today, getting a food, beverage, or supplement product compliant across markets means manual review, sprawling spreadsheets, and regulatory knowledge that lives in people's heads & mountains of paperwork, instead of in a system. As companies expand into more markets and regulations continue to evolve, that approach is becoming increasingly slow, expensive, and difficult to scale.

We're turning compliance into reliable infrastructure that can be built upon - turning complex, regulation-heavy processes into fast, intelligent experiences. Not by replacing the judgment of regulatory professionals, but by helping them apply the expertise they've built over years of experience faster, more consistently, and with greater transparency across every market a product touches.

We're a fast-moving, Singapore-based startup backed by Iterative VC, already building across regulatory frameworks in North America, Europe, APAC, and more — with beauty, personal care, and pet food next on our roadmap as we push into adjacent regulated categories. This is early-stage, high-ownership work: the systems we build now will define how compliance works for years to come.

The Role

This is not a typical engineering job. You will be one of the first technical hires, which means you will write production code every day and also shape how we build: the architecture, the tooling, the culture of craft. You will work directly with the founders on product decisions, and your fingerprints will be on everything Taama ships.

We are looking for someone who thrives in the unknown: who can pick up a fuzzy problem, make it concrete, and ship something real before the week is out. Someone who treats ambiguity as a design surface, not a blocker.

What You'll Do

- Own the full stack:  frontend, backend, infrastructure, and the glue in between

- Work closely with founders to translate complex workflows (compliance, legal, CPG) into clean, intuitive product experiences

- Integrate and orchestrate AI models, agents, and pipelines into production systems

- Lay the engineering foundations: patterns, documentation, CI/CD, code standards built to scale

- Move fast and make considered trade-offs - know when to cut corners and when to build it right

- Be an active voice on product direction, not just a feature executor

- Contribute beyond code when needed: demos, customer calls, whatever it takes at this stage

Who You Are

- 4+ years building software, at least one system you kept alive in production for over a year

- You have built things at early-stage startups — ideally before product-market fit, where - speed and judgment mattered equally

- You are comfortable not knowing the answer and figuring it out anyway

- You write clean, pragmatic code — and you know the difference between over-engineering and under-engineering

- You are AI-native: You have shipped an LLM feature or product to production and can show how you measured accuracy and what you did when it drifted

- You can hold complexity in your head and present simplicity to users

- You are based in Asia (±3h of GMT+8 timezone) and available to work with a distributed team across time zones

Stack & Skills

- Frontend: React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS

- Backend: Python, REST API, containerised workloads

- AI/ML: LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI etc.), advanced RAG (hybrid retrieval, query expansion, reranking), agent frameworks & multi-agent orchestration with tool calling, knowledge graph construction

- Infra: GCP, Postgres/pgvector, Queues, Redis, CI/CD pipelines, observability basics

- Mindset: documentation-first, test where it matters, ship and iterate

- You treat evaluation as part of the feature. You are uncomfortable shipping a verdict you can't trace.

Nice to Have

- Experience in compliance, legal tech, or CPG (or genuine curiosity about regulated industries)

- Prior experience as a founding engineer or very early hire in a startup

- You have built internal tools or workflows that replaced manual, high-stakes processes

- Familiarity with document understanding, structured extraction, or workflow automation-

Make sure your response explains the details below:
a. What did it do, what parts did you personally design/build/operate?
b. How did you know it was working well? What was the measurable impact (scale, latency, cost, reliability, revenue, time saved)?
c. Share a link to the project you built, if possible.

If selected, when are you available to start?

Let us know if you need to serve a notice period or are available immediately.
