Friction

A small Mumbai book club for readers who try.

Hi there, this is Samarth Bansal. I am starting a book club in Mumbai. It’s called Friction.

I am doing this because I want to build a small community of readers who don’t give up when they struggle with a single sentence or dozens of pages. They try.

They get that the struggle to understand is not the problem—it’s the whole fucking point. They know what you get once you get past that friction, which is the deeply rewarding feeling of nourishing our inner lives.

While reading is the absolute perfect thing to do all by oneself, I find great joy in making parts of it communal. In having a small group where reading is not a performance, where you meet folks who, despite demanding jobs and chaotic city life, find those stolen minutes and hours to be inside a book—and those who don’t use “everyone is losing attention span” as a self-justification to not try.

I imagine Friction to be a community of readers who try. That’s it.

Fill this out if you'd like to join the mailing list for Friction. We do monthly meets, and all details are shared on email.
