Student Belonging in College and Training Programs

Welcome!

Would you please take part in a community exercise that connects factors that help students feel that they belong in college and training programs?

This spring, Oregon’s Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) partnered with Oregon’s Kitchen Table and Izora Arts & Sciences to hear from 1,100 Oregonians about what helps create a sense of belonging for students in college and training programs. We distilled all those ideas into 74 factors.  All the factors are important, but some of them also help other factors gain momentum.

This is where you come in! We’re going to ask you which factors you think spur the others. Don’t overthink it – this is a case of first-thought best-thought, and it should be fun!

First, we will ask you some questions about yourself. We ask these questions to ensure that we have included a wide range of people. Please select the options that best represent how you identify today for each of the following categories. Your individual responses are anonymous and must be completed to advance. You can choose “Prefer not to answer” if you want.

After completing these questions you'll be taken to the community exercise to connect factors.

You can take part in this community exercise to make connections between factors through December 11, 2026.
