Expat Identity Mentorship
Before our first session, I'd like to understand a little about where you are right now. This isn't a test, and you don't need to find the "right" words.
Just tell me what is true for you.
1.) Where are you currently living?
2.) How long have you been there?
3.) What brought you to this place?
Tell me briefly about the move, including whether this was primarily a career move for you, your partner, or both.
4.) Before the move, what gave your life a sense of identity, purpose, or belonging?
This might have been your career, friendships, family, community, routines, independence, hobbies, status, or simply knowing how your world worked.
5.) What do you miss most?
Don't overthink this. What comes to mind first?
6.) What feels most different about you since the move?
For example: confidence, motivation, independence, social identity, relationships, energy, optimism, sense of competence, or something else.
7.) Which of these have you been experiencing since the move?
8.) When is this hardest for you?
Morning, daytime, evenings, weekends, when your partner is at work, when you're alone, socially, professionally, or at particular times or places?
Tell me what you've noticed.
9.) What do you find yourself thinking about most?
If there is a recurring thought, fear, question, regret, or story running through your mind, tell me what it is.
10. What do you think you've lost that other people may not fully understand?
This may be something that seems small from the outside but feels enormous to you.
11. Is there a part of your former life or former self that you're afraid you might never get back?
12. What have you been trying to do to make this better?
What has helped, even a little? What hasn't?
13. If our four weeks together were beneficial, what would you want to be different?
What would you like to understand, reclaim, rebuild, or simply feel again?
14. Is there something you particularly want me to understand before we meet?
Anything you haven't had a place to say. Anything you think I should know.
There's no need to make this polished.
Just tell me the truth as you experience it.
Once I have this, along with the ensuing payment, I'll reach out to arrange our first session.
I look forward to working with you.
