Explorer Scholarship Application Form

Spend a week in the open ocean.

Live aboard a vessel.

Snorkel with wild humpback whales.

Collect real data as a citizen scientist.

There are moments in life when you feel something pulling you toward the ocean, toward something bigger than yourself.

This scholarship is for that person. The Seabirds are offering a fully supported expedition experience to the Silver Bank Marine Sanctuary in the Dominican Republic, where you will spend a week living aboard a research vessel, snorkeling alongside wild humpback whales, and participating in real-world acoustic studies and citizen science.

You do not need to be a scientist. You do not need prior expedition experience. What you do need is curiosity, courage, and a willingness to step into the unknown. This is not a luxury trip. It includes varying ocean conditions, small, shared living spaces on a boat that is out to sea for seven full days with no access to port, physical activity, and unpredictable wildlife encounters.

It is an immersive, in-water, expedition-style experience that will challenge you, stretch you, and invite you to see both the ocean, and your role in it, differently.

We are looking for someone who is ready not only to experience this moment, but to carry it forward into their community, their work, and their way of seeing the world.
If that sounds like you, we invite you to apply!
