Submissions Close June 24th
Backroom’s current American flag has reached the point where it’s time to retire it. Rather than replacing it with another flag, we want to open the space up to the community.
We’re looking for a new flag, banner, or hanging piece to fly outside Backroom.
The goal is to raise the selected piece on July 4th during Backroom’s INDIE-PENDENCE DAY.
This can represent: Springdale, Northwest Arkansas, music and nightlife, local culture, weirdness, community, tension, optimism, humor, or simply something you think deserves to exist in public space.
This is intentionally open-ended. The selected piece will become part of downtown Springdale and Northwest Arkansas for a while.
Traditional flags, experimental flags, strange shapes, vertical banners, swallowtails, abstract pieces, and non-conforming ideas are all welcome.
One selected piece will be produced and raised outside by Backroom staff on July 4th.
1st Place: The selected design will be produced as a flag, banner, or hanging piece and raised outside Backroom.
2nd and 3rd Place: Winners will receive a Backroom gift package.
Current flag dimensions: 36" × 60"
Recommended export size: 5760 × 3456 px or larger
File types: PNG preferred. JPG or PDF accepted.
Please do not submit AI-generated artwork. We want actual human-made work here.
We will accept submissions through June 24th.
Artists retain ownership of their artwork. However, the final produced flag, if selected, will become a donated piece to Backroom.
By submitting, you allow Backroom to display the selected piece, photograph it, and share it online for promotional/documentation purposes.
Backroom reserves the right to select no winner if needed.
