Software Engineer (Mid–Senior) — AI-assisted development & project ownership

At Gelasakis S.A., we’re building demanding greenfield projects and ideally looking for a mid-to-senior engineer who can take ownership of projects, with my oversight and support.

The work goes beyond writing code: understanding what people need, separating essential requirements from nice-to-haves, delivering solutions, and verifying that they work.

You should be comfortable using coding agents, questioning their output, following project guidelines, and communicating progress, problems, and decisions that need escalation.

You don’t need to know every technology we use. You should already be comfortable turning unclear requirements into a delivery plan, making day-to-day decisions, and taking responsibility for the result. You’ll keep me informed about progress, risks, and trade-offs, and escalate when my input is needed.

Greek fluency is needed for day-to-day collaboration. Ideally, you’re based in Athens or Chania.

Short bullet points are welcome—around 300 words in total is enough. You can answer in Greek or English. Please don’t share confidential code or client information.

1. Something you owned

Describe a project or feature you took from an unclear request to delivery. What did you personally handle? Which questions clarified the real need? What did you deliberately leave out, and why?

2. How you would approach this

A booking tool launches next week. The client wants a redesigned dashboard, staff say changing bookings takes too many steps, and some confirmation emails reportedly aren’t arriving.

What would you ask before deciding what to do? What would you prioritise or postpone, and why? What would you decide yourself, and what would you escalate to the person overseeing your work?

3. When your AI agent got it wrong

Give one concrete example of your AI agent getting something wrong. How did you notice the mistake, what did you do, and how did you verify the result?
I use AI to help organise and assess responses against the role’s criteria, with human review and responsibility for hiring decisions.
