After reviewing your feedback, the Board has decided to put the proposed governance change to a vote of the membership. The vote will happen in person at our annual meeting in early 2027. Think potluck: good food, good company, and a chance to talk it through together.
What you'd be voting on
Today, Coalition members elect the board at an annual election. The proposal would change our Articles of Incorporation and bylaws so that the board appoints new board members instead.
Why we're proposing it
Our board elections have never been contested, and only about 3–5% of members typically vote. Appointing board members lets us recruit people with the skills, perspectives, and regional ties a growing organization needs, and bring them on throughout the year.
What wouldn't change
Our mission, membership, and your ability to suggest board candidates or express interest in serving. We're also working on new safeguards, including a published skills matrix, a board meeting observer policy, more ways to give input, and possible term limits and staggered terms.
How the vote works
At least 10% of members must take part, and the change passes only if more than two-thirds of votes cast are in favor. If it doesn't pass, members keep electing the board as they do today.
