Visual and sound art residency at ssesi for artists from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia

SSESI is calling for both early career and established visual and sound art practitioners from V4 countries (except of Czechia, where we're based) to apply for a 2 month fully funded residency covered by Visegrad fund. In this form, we'll walk you through contexts, conditions and deadlines. Let's start!

Who are we?

SSESI - Safe Space for Exploring S-Ideas - is a unique cultural space located on the steep slopes of Svratka river in Jundrov district of Brno, Czechia. Our activities are anchored locally in the specificities of the space we inhabit – a former community garden now turning into burgeoning forest – and globally in the contexts of de-colonial studies, more-than-human worlds, and artistic and environmental research.
The aim of our association is to create a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment where experimentation, open discussion and (self)reflection can flourish and where disciplines, methods and audiences can cross-polinate freely and furitfuly.
For six years now, we've been developing sensitivity towards our natural surroundings, towards ourselves and towards each other. In collaboration with international and local artists, architects, and researchers we've organised exhibitions, workshops, residencies, performances and club events locally on-site, off-site, and abroad.

Who are we looking for?

We seek artists from Hungary, Slovakia and Poland interested in artistic research, cross-disciplinary collaboration or wanting to deepen their own visual or sonic language and poetics. We encourage early career as well as established artists to apply.
As per virtue of our site - nature reclaimed community garden - we are interested to work with artists exploring topics of more-than-human relationing, environmental sensitivities and speculative post-anthropocentric scenarios.
As per our current curatorial framing - "Being soft is being strong" - we are interested to work with artists who explore and apply playfullnes, body-based involvement, gentleness and softness in their artistic practice.

What do we offer?

- Accomodation - on site in a refurbished garden house or off-site furbished room at our partners' premisses in the city centre
- Curatorial support, consultations and hangouts - meetings, consultation, support and conviviality from our team
- Scholarship - Visegrad fund offers 3000 euros lump sum scholarship that you can distribute towards materials and artistic fee as you please
- Studio space and tools - on-site portfolio of wood and metal working power tools, shared off-site studio space in the city centre with access to AV technology
