Whether it has been winding and unpredictable or you’ve always had a clear direction, our paths to creativity are uniquely personal. What have been the significant points on your creative path? Where did you start out? Where are you now? What did you learn on the way?

How did you get from there to here?

I realize this could be an entire memoir, but for the sake of brevity and the practicality of publishing these stories in the magazine, I will ask you to think of your overall journey and then focus on one to three pivotal moments where you—or circumstances—made decisions that affected your path to creativity. What happened? How did you react? What did you feel? And where are you now?

A selection of submissions will be published in UPPERCASE issue #71 (Oct-Nov-Dec 2026) and/or the UPPERCASE newsletter. Please proofread everything before you press submit.

How did you get from there to here? This form accepts 500-3000 characters (characters, not words!!!); both letters and spaces are included in the character count.

IMAGES

• Upload at least one and up to 6 supporting images (this could be photographs, artwork, illustration or a self-portrait).

• Your files should be a jpg at least at 300dpi (bigger is better for print purposes), saved with your name so that it matches exactly the name you've entered above (for example JanineVangool-01.jpg, JanineVangool-02.jpg, etc).

• No composite images or watermarks. No digital mockups. No AI-generated or AI-assisted imagery.
